WELCOME CLASSMATES & FRIENDS!!

Daryl writes....

Hello everyone!  I write this now having returned from attending the RCHS Class of 1979 30-Year Reunion and I guess I will just steal a phrase from Tony the Tiger, and say it was GRRRRRRRRRREAT!  In the 10 years passed since our 20-year reunion, the world has seen a tremendous growth in communication by virtue of email, the internet, and online networking websites such as MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and many others.  I personally feel it was the ease of being able to reach out to everyone through the internet and email that really found us enjoying a great turnout at the 30-year reunion.  But, from what some of you told me, it was also the fact that for those of you with families, most of your children are now of an age where you were more freely able to travel and leave them to do their own thing.  Underneath it all though, isn't it really just the fact that we're members of a terrific class that really inspired you to attend this event?  I think so, and for those of you unable to attend, I'll just say that you darn well better make the next one!  Sure, things happen that are unavoidable but you just gotta' avoid the unavoidable when you have an opportunity to reunite with friends not seen in a long time.

In any case, the majority of photos that I took are now posted here, with some candids remaining.  For those of you who are Facebook members, more photos are posted there by myself and others.  To accommodate various monitor sizes, the group photo is provided in 3 sizes but may still require scrolling on some smaller screens.  I have also made a print-quality version of the group photo; please see below for more details.

That's all for now!

Daryl

Do you remember the Yellowjackets fight song, to the melody of "Smoke on the Water"? ....Jackets go, they really go, Jackets gonna' get ya!  Well, if you'd rather not hear it, just click on the control icon below the RCHS crest in the contents pane.  That is, if you are hearing the music right now...it varies by browser.

30 Year Reunion:  Saturday, July 11, 2009 found a great turnout of 70+ classmates for our 30-year reunion at the Flatwater Grill in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  Spouses and friends were also in attendance for a total of about 130 people.  In addition to dance music provided by DJ team "The Party Boys", our own Tony Wilson entertained us as he sang several country songs.  If you weren't aware that Tony sings professionally, visit his website at http://www.tonywilsonmusic.com for more information.  In addition to the main event, Jay Beets also spearheaed a pre-reunion pizza party at Big Ed's Pizza in Oak Ridge, on Friday, and a casual pavilion picnic followed on Sunday at the Kingston City Park.  In addition to the photos I present here, I and other classmates have also posted photos at Facebook.  If you're not a member of Facebook, I encourage you to join and share a little information about what is going on in your life, and join the network of friends and classmates who attended RCHS.

Print Quality Group Photo

A high-resolution JPEG image in the AdobeRGB color space may be downloaded by right-clicking here and selecting (in Internet Explorer) "Save Target As...".  This image is suitable for print sizes up to 19x8 inches @ 300ppi (pixels per inch), which is a common photo-quality print resolution.  Printing the photo myself, the colors overall appear to have a greenish cast that does not appear obvious on a calibrated monitor and even in the web versions of the photo.  Your results may vary depending upon who you send the file to for printing.  Jim White pointed out to me that the outdoor lighting at the Flatwater Grill was  a type likely responsible for the green cast, and my single flash may not have been powerful enough to overcome that.  In any case, I hope all who print the photo are pleased with the results.

To Bertie Sackett Corea, Darlina Pesterfield Brooksbank, Roger Brooksbank, Suzanne Harris Eaton, Jim White, and all who helped with this and prior reunion events, THANK YOU!!  You did a great job and I know your efforts were appreciated by all.

Finally, among the classmates not in attendance at our 30-year reunion, are some who were never located and thus not contacted.  If anyone knows the whereabouts of any of these missing classmates, and contact information for them, please send Jim White or myself an email with their information..  The classmates who have not been located are:

Jeanne Bandy
Alan Brimer
Ronnie Daniel
Lisa Gaunt
Greg McMillan
Carl Monroe
Brian Nichols
Brenda Parker
Larissa Radebaugh
Donna Ryan
Mark Scott
Susan Scott
Nancy Stringer
David Watson

PRIOR EVENTS

20 Year Reunion:  On July 17, 1999 the 20th reunion of our class was held at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Oak Ridge, TN.  While I don't know what the head count was, I would estimate perhaps 40-50% of our class turned out for the evening party.  Earlier that day, a picnic was held at Southwest Point ball park and was attended primarily by those living in the area.  All in all, I believe everyone enjoyed this time to get together and reminisce about our high school years.  One thing is for certain....well, in my opinion at least...we have a great class!

If you'd like to see some photos of those attending the 20th reunion, just select the "Individuals" button in the contents pane.  I regrettably didn't get photos of everyone, but everyone looked great.  My apologies in advance for any out of focus photos or less than flattering pictures.  Basically if a person could be recognized in a photo, I included it.

10 Year Reunion:  Yes, we also had a 10th anniversary reunion back on Sepember 2, 1989 at the Hilton Hotel in Knoxville.  At that time, we had a turnout of about 90 classmates.  I'll add whatever photos I can find...after all, I didn't get everyone's photo at our 20th reunion.
